Following up on the heels of her luminous solo debut single, “What You Waiting For”, Gwen Stefani teams up with multi- platinum rapper Eve for the second outing from Gwen’s debut, Love. Angel. Music. Baby. “Rich Girl” hosts a vivid rhythm (thanks to producer Dr. Dre), with an infectious, undeniable bridge, and chorus guaranteed to have listeners singing/dancing along.
More pop and less rocking than “What You Waiting For”, “Rich Girls” blends pop, and hip hop with a modest splash of dancehall. Gwen flows through the verses singing what she would do if she were a “wealthy girl”, with Eve throwing in a charismatic chant, and rap.
While jaded music fans may be turned off by the simplistic, unsophisticated lyrical content of the song; lovers of pop, and dance music will find plenty to love about this sparkly gem. This millennium may have finally found its quintessential “Material Girl” song.
