COMEDY:  Without a Paddle

Rate: 6.5

Run Time: 95 minutes

Theatrical Release Date: August 20th, 2004

Directed By: Steven Brill

Cast:  Matthew Lillard, Dax Shepard, Seth Green, Burt Reynolds, and Nadine Bernecker

Seth Green did an extraordinary job in this comedy “Without A Paddle”. Seth is usually a small, common guy used in movies to fulfill a character allowance in movie scripts, but in this comedy he plays a “whiny-phobia” character that makes everyone laugh.  Matthew Lilliard, better known as Shaggy, is due a pat on the back for his quirky performance.  He plays Jerry, the one who keeps his head when trouble comes a knocking. This was a little unexpected since I was relying on him to do unearthly things.  But no matter what he makes me laugh with his facial expressions.  Dax Shepard is an actor trying to make it and I believe that with his “I Don’t Care” attitude he just might make it.  After all his looks aren’t bad either.

Tom (Dax Shepard) drives through the graveyard on his motorcycle while the burial of his friend is going on. He gets off his bike and yells, “Where’d you guys park?” This sparks the beginning of a new inception for the three friends. As children they would play treasure hunting for D.B. Coopers treasure (an old legend that had been told for years). But this was an obsession that the deceased had, so to honor their friend they decide to hunt down the treasure.

They go on a camping trip down the Oregon river in search of finding D.B. and his treasure. Everything that could possibly go wrong does! First they encounter a bear that thinks Dan (Seth Green) is her child who also eats his cell phone. What a hilarious situation! Running from the mother bear they stumble onto a huge marijuana farm with some back wood farmers who don’t take strangers lightly. The guys take off running again to get away from the gun-hungry farmers. Looking for a place to hide they find some nature loving hippie girls hanging out in a tree house high above. When the drug farmers find out they are there – the three friends escape with only their underwear on. I’ll leave that to your imagination. A crazy old mountain man (Burt Reynolds) takes the friends captive. But to their surprise clothes them and sends them back out. On their way back to town they realize that they are in the right spot for where D.B’s treasure should be. Do they find D.B Cooper or his treasure? Well you’ll have to watch this sidesplitting comedy to find out.
